Prairie Blazing Star (Liatris pycnostachya)

Description:
A tall native perennial with dense spikes of vibrant purple flowers that bloom from the top downward, attracting butterflies, native bees, hummingbirds, and other pollinators. Prairie Blazing Star adds bold vertical interest to prairies, pollinator gardens, and native landscapes while providing valuable late-season nectar.

Planting Tips:

  • Plant in full sun with well-drained soil
  • Water regularly during establishment, then only during extended drought
  • Tolerates a wide range of soils but performs best in moderately moist, well-drained sites
  • Leave seed heads standing through winter to provide food and habitat for wildlife
