Description:
Big Bluestem is a tall, warm-season perennial bunchgrass native to Texas and much of North America. Known as the "king of prairie grasses," it plays a vital role in native grassland ecosystems. Its tall, upright blades turn from blue-green to bronze-red in the fall, and its distinctive seed heads resemble a turkey's foot. Big Bluestem provides nesting cover for birds, forage for grazing animals, and supports a variety of insects and pollinators.
Planting Tips:
-
Plant in full sun in well-drained to moderately moist soils.
-
Excellent for prairie restoration, wildlife habitat, or ornamental borders.
-
Deep roots make it drought-tolerant once established.
