Sun Requirements: Full Sun to Partial Shade

Water Requirements: Moderate; well-drained soil, keep moist but not soggy

Height: 8–10 feet (twining vine)

Bloom Time: Late Spring through Fall

Description:
Purple Bell Vine is a show-stopping tender perennial vine (often grown as an annual in cooler climates) native to southwestern Mexico. It features heart-shaped leaves often edged in purple and dangling bell-shaped blooms in deep maroon or violet tones reminiscent of hanging lanterns. The flowers emerge in abundance, cascading down walls, trellises, or hanging baskets for a dramatic effect.

Planting Tips:

  • Provide a trellis, wall, or hanger to allow the vine to twine and climb.

  • Use well-drained, fertile soil; protect from strong cold or frost in Texas.

  • Begin outdoors after all threat of frost has passed (treat as an annual in most Texas zones).

  • Space plants about 10–12 inches apart for best coverage.

  • Water regularly during establishment, then less frequently once mature.

Ideal Season for Planting in Texas: Spring/Summer for Fall

Nativity to Texas: No
